About Satellite 5
“Science Fiction ... Science Fact ... Science Fun”
Satellite conventions have traditionally focused on the interface between science fact and science fiction. Satellite 1 looked back at the Soviet Space Programme and the 50 years of SF since the launch of Sputnik 1; Satellite 2 celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing and showcased SF featuring the moon; whilst Satellite 3 visited Mars and speculated that the rapidly developing Chinese Space Programme might send the first humans there in 30 years time. After going One Step Beyond the solar system with Satellite 4, for Satellite 5 we’re heading back into orbit to look at science and SF relating to space stations, orbiting habitats, floating cities etc.
The convention will have the ususal blend of panels, talks, workshops with silly games and quizzes thrown in. We intend to have an Art Show and Dealers’ Room as well – truly a convention with something for everyone.
We are delighted to announce that our author Guest of Honour is Jaine Fenn, writer of the Hidden Empire series. Indeed, with stories about Khesh City, hub-points and exotic planets, Jaine’s work fits well with our theme. Jaine is well known to fans and was Guest of Honour at Novacon in 2012.
We are also pleased to announce that our artist Guest of Honour is Glasgow stalwart Ed Buckley. Ed has a long record of producing "space" artwork, including works for several conventions, such as Satellite 3's Programme Book cover.
